Ocean Child Riesling 2020

Named in honour of John’s great, great grandmother, born somewhere in the Southern Ocean en-route to New Zealand in 1849 and entered in the ship’s log as “the ocean child”.

The Riesling is planted in a particularly frost-prone part of the vineyard, therefore is only made when it escapes damage from spring frost.

Wine making

Whole bunch pressed.
Settled overnight.
Fermented in stainless steel, temperature controlled for slow fermentation to preserve fruity characters.

Tasting notes

Nose: Delightfully aromatic and fruity with citrus lime and mineral overtones.

Palate: Dryish (7.5 gm/l) in style, this wine has a lovely fresh and delicate palate with the lemon/lime character following through. Rich and mouth-filling on the entry and a crisp and harmonious finish.

Cellaring

Drink now or cellar 5-7 years.
