The Winery

Our aim is to produce complex multi-layered wines that reflect both old world grape varieties and the new world soils and growing conditions.

At Te Hera we believe that a vineyard and winery are a living biological system. The role of the winegrower both in the vineyard and the winery is one of nurturance. We aim to use minimal interventions, bearing in mind the impact on the environment in which we all live.

We seek to have the quality intrinsic to the grape and vintage express itself in the wine. To do this, we use traditional low-tech wine making methods.

We would like to say thank you to the generosity of the local wine makers who allowed us space in their wineries for our initial small crops. We finally completed our own winery in time for the 2003 vintage. Since then we have been supporting other fledgling wine producers, sharing our winery with them.
